Rocky Mount officials have issued an emergency demolition notice to the owner of a downtown building at risk of collapse.
Until recently, the commercial building at 128 Tarboro St. housed 97 Hair Gallery, a local beauty salon. But with a gaping crack in the building’s facade growing through the winter, city inspectors forced the tenants to vacate on March 18 and issued a notice to building owner, Kisha Jones.
A city-contracted demolition crew is scheduled to remove the front facade of the structure Sunday.
“It’s really an unfortunate situation,” downtown development manager Ian Kipp said. “Hopefully after we get the facade off, we can get it stabilized, and the owner can hopefully make the necessary repairs.”
However these building below have been like this for year, the city hasn't issue a demolition order on these building, I would have to wonder why?

Yes your right, they should worry about the abondoned buildings first. Then when the occupied building falls in we can all point the finger at Rckymnt and say, "Why didnt they do something about that." Here is the deal someone owns that building, it is their responsibility to take care of it. The city inspector caught an issue with the building reported it and nothing was done. Now the city is stepping in.
