Grass/Weeds
Grass or weeds that are eighteen (18) inches or more in height and are within 150 feet of an inhabited resident, place of business, or any other establishment is considered a public health nuisance. Owners of properties in violation are given seven days to abate this nuisance or the City will do so and bill the owner.

Now if this is your property you would get a nice little notice where if cut within five to ten day they will do it for you, min 50 bucks to?? Yet, the weeds at the local city parks can grow out of control and all they city park workers cut is the along the sidewalk area.

All this after they spent all the time and money to clean out the park, so people couldn’t hide and have some adult fun..

it seem they only have time to cut the grass near the sidewalks.. (notice if this was Sunset or City Lake it would have been correctly)

They’re having a Celebration..

yes they are celebrating their new sidewalks, lamp posts, and streets in downtown Rocky Mount NC.

The City of Rocky Mount will host a Downtown Streetscape Celebration May 30, 2013 at 4 pm. Congressman G.K. Butterfield, who also attended the kick-off for Streetscape, will serve as the event’s keynote speaker. The public is invited to the event, scheduled to be held at 119 Southeast Main Street in Downtown Rocky Mount, located next to the former Peoples Bank at the intersection of Main and Tarboro Streets.
Streetscape is the name for visual elements of a street, including the road, street furniture, open spaces and more. The City of Rocky Mount will be joined by Butterfield, as well as Rocky Mount High School’s Marching Band; Rocky Mount residents; the entertainment group, the Voltage Brothers, and others to recognize and celebrate the completion of Phase 1 of the Downtown Streetscape Project.

Douglas Block Festival

Today I decide to attend and photography the Douglas Block and Haramabee Festival in Rocky Mount, NC. Well the work on the Douglas is almost complete, The Block looks great.

As I walk around taking photographs of the folks whom attended this event, I was saddened to see that racial lines in Rocky Mount still exists today. Douglas Block back in its early days was the hub for local African-Americans Businesses and Social life. Over time as Rocky Mount grew, many changes happen to the Douglas black and the rest of Downtown Rocky Mount.

During its golden age, the Douglas Block was brimming with economic activities and entrepreneurial spirit. It was the heart of the community. On Saturday afternoon you could find everything from clothes to doctors, food to entertainment, dancing and plenty of jazz, and see all your friends along the way. It was a community full of spirit, diversity, and an incredible hub of commerce, culture and entertainment. (to learn more click here)

Most of Downtown Rocky Mount is wore down and falling apart. The City Council decided to revive Down Town in hopes that new life would be brought back to downtown.

It was sad to see that Many of Rocky Mount white citizens didn't show up to support their city efforts to put Rocky Mount back on the map and to proudly say once again, Rocky Mount, The City on the Rise. Yes they are trying to Rise from their ashes of the past into a better future.
